The Old Songs
We came by sea to sing the old songs
The waves were rough and none too kind
And I was glad to reach that green and steady land
Its colours still glow in my mind
We trailed along the ragged cliff tops
The blue sky sparkled in the bay
Saw ancient rooms where people lived and loved and sang the old songs
Long time ago just like today
We drank red wine and sang the old songs
Told our stories from the start
And all that we held dear was laid upon your table
Just like a feast for the heart
